Information - General
The "Transforming Experiences - GK-12" NSF Funded project, at the University of Colorado, Denver, with a primary goal of training future higher education professionals with an understanding and appreciation for the many facets of K-12 education, will institute a system that enhances and strengthens the teaching and research of the chosen GK-12 Fellows. Through interdisciplinary teams (TELC), including science and mathematics GK-12 Fellows, university content faculty and middle school teachers, the project will create a process for transformation and simultaneous renewal.
The GK-12 Fellows, with assistance from their faculty mentors, will serve as conduits to middle school classrooms as co-instructional partners for curricular and instructional development, advisors, mentors, and content and research experts. Collaborating will be teachers, chosen because of their high participation in the Rocky Mountain Middle School Math and Science Partnership, who will assist GK-12 Fellows with understanding and implementation of a variety of instructional strategies, learning theory, and curricular development.
Additionally, global connections will be made as teams participate in regular collaborative experiences with international colleagues. Selected GK-12 Fellows and members of their TELC will have an opportunity to work with international researchers while experiencing other K-12 science and math educational systems.
